Slimming Foods
Achieving and maintaining a healthy weight is increasingly a priority for many people. Losing weight is a challenge and keeping it off is important too. Very Low Calorie and Low Calorie Diets, Meal replacements and products are designed for the whole day to help people avoid the pitfalls of fad diets and the difficulties of calorie-counting.
Obesity is defined as a condition where there is an excessive amount of body fat. The amount of body fat in the body is measured using the Body Mass Index (BMI). This is calculated by dividing the body mass or weight (in kg) by the square of the height (in metres). A BMI of 20-25 = ideal weight, 25-30 = overweight, over 30 = obese.
When cutting calories, the slimming diet can sometimes lack key nutrients, such as certain vitamins and minerals. In following a weight-reducing diet, slimmers need an adequate intake of nutrients (fat, protein, carbohydrate, vitamins and minerals) in order to maintain overall health at the same time as controlling total calorie intake.
BSNA has had a Slimming Foods Working Group for many years, however as of 1 January 2010 there are no slimming group members.
