BSNA launch new Briefing Paper 'Driving high quality nutritional care, informing the development of nutritional care quality standards' Oct 2011
The NHS White Paper, Equity and excellence: Liberating the NHS, published in July 2010, and subsequent consultations confirmed that in the future the NHS will focus on delivering improvements in patient outcomes rather than on processes and targets.
NICE has been charged with developing a series of new quality standards and BSNA welcome the inclusion, in particular, of the topics ‘Nutrition in hospital, including young people’ and ‘pressure ulcers’.
Ahead of the consultation process beginning BSNA asked its expert members to give thought to the key elements of a quality standard on nutrition to help to stimulate discussion among the nutrition community of what high quality nutritional care should look like in hospital and, indeed, in other care settings.
This paper has been sent to a wide group of those who play a key role in nutritional standard setting in Parliament, in the Community and in allied interest groups. BSNA will be monitoring their response and building their key comments into the briefing paper for further discussion.
The BSNA Briefing Paper can be accessed here and BSNA welcome comments on the paper to info@bsna.co.uk.
